Meet Our Pastor
Our pastor, Donald Grey Barnhouse Jr., has been with us since 1981. He got a good start on his training by being brought up in the home of the well known pastor, author, and radio Bible teacher, Dr. Donald Grey Barnhouse of Philadelphia. His academic degrees are an A.B. from Harvard in Math, M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in "Divinity," and M.A. from Villanova in Political Science.
Before becoming a pastor, he served as Personal Research Consultant to Billy Graham for four years, appeared as News Analyst on WCAU-TV twice nightly for ten years, and for four years taught Political Science in two area colleges. At various times in his life he has lived and worked on a farm, worked in a gas station, operated a small business selling classical music, directed a civic group fighting political corruption in Philadelphia, and taught Math to children of all ages from birth through high school.
All his sermons are Bible teaching, examining how God's truth speaks to us today. He also serves as our Minister of Music, directing our choir. His wife Lisbeth, officially the Church Secretary, is really in effect a co-pastor, teaching a Bible class when needed, and sharing a wise and generous nature with all who need someone to talk to. They have two bright, lovely daughters, Lucy Christine and Joanna Elisabeth, both of whom were home schooled from birth to college. Lucy Christine graduated "summa cum laude" from Messiah College in June 2008. She was accepted to go to graduate school at Oxford University in England, but chose to go to Fordham in New York as they offered her a full scholarship plus living expenses. She has now completed her M.A., and is teaching undergraduates while working toward her doctorate. Joanna also graduated from Messiah College, "summa cum laude," and was immediately hired by the college for their development department. She fills in as our church organist when necessary. Both girls are experienced Vacation Bible School teachers, and have helped in many other ways in the life of the church.
Our pastor's Biblical studies have given him more to say than he can fit into the Sunday morning sermons, and he is eager to share the results through various kinds of writing, including several books and a monthly newsletter. If you would like to see samples, you could look for his personal web page, which is being built at www.donaldgreybarnhouse.com Do you have any questions about the Bible? Or about how to deal with problems in your Christian life? Write to him! He very much enjoys answering questions, and he will try to answer promptly. His e-mail address at the moment is firstname.lastname@example.org.
